Our Weekly Message
February 5, 2012

Dear Fellow Parishioners,
Stewardship is based on your need to give, not on the need of someone else to receive. It is based on the premise that all we have and all we are is a gift from God, and as a way of thanking God for our blessings we give some of our time, talent, and treasure back to Him by serving our church and community.
This weekend Family Life Stewardship was the focus. The ministries under this committee involve family life and opportunities for parish hospitality and social activities. PCCW (Parish Council of Catholic Women), the Coffee and Donut Committee, Men's Breakfast Group, and Mom's Group are examples of social activities that br ing par ish members together. The Soup Kitchen, Visiting the Homebound, Prayer Shawl Ministry are a few of the examples of ministries caring for the elderly, the sick, and less fortunate in our par ish. Family Life has multiple ministry choices in which we can share our talents that God has bestowed upon us with the parish, fellow parishioners and the community.
You will receive a Family Life Ministry Time and Talent sheet in the mail. We ask that you look over the list of the available opportunities. Prayerfully consider where you can contribute. Choose an activity you enjoy and fill a need besides!

This is a one year commitment only.
Please return the Family Life Time and Talent form
by the weekend of February 25-26, 2012.

"Each man is to bring a gift as he is able, In proportion to the blessing that the Lord, your God has given him." Deuteronomy 16:17

Church of the Resurrection's  Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen

11:30AM TO 1:00PM
FEBRUARY 22 THRU APRIL 4, 2012

Please note: The Soup Kitchens will NOT be open on the days the city schools are closed due to bad weather.

Many parishioners have helped to ease the loneliness of our shut-ins by making and delivering homemade bread and soup to Resurrection shut-ins the third Wednesday of each month.   During Lent, we expand this service to EVERY Wednesday and in addition offer a quick and delicious lunch to the public.  Those who are needy are invited at no cost - and those who can afford to pay are asked for a free-will donation.  We carry on the work of the Circle of Love throughout the year with the profits of the "Lenten Soup Kitchen", including soup to the Salvation Army, Marywood Bingo, etc.

We are again asking for help with the "Loaves and Fishes" Lenten Soup Kitchen.  Please put this form in the collection basket, drop off or mail to the rectory, or email me at manelson4@frontier.com by Friday, February 17, 2012.

Ways you can help: Soup Maker, help chop vegetables (begin at 6:30am) Wednesdays, bake or buy bread (bring by 9:00am), set tables and serve, help with dishes and clean up, scrub pots and pans, deliver soup to shut-ins

WE HOPE YOU WILL INVITE YOUR FRIENDS TO PATRONIZE THE LENTEN SOUP KITCHEN

Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Vehicle Donation Program -
For nearly 175 years the Society of Saint V incent de Paul has been helping people in need, the poor and suffering, one person at a time. Now there is a new way that you can assist the needy through the Society's National Vehicle Donation Program. Your used vehicle may be turned into critical items for those in need, including food, clothing, shelter, care for the elderly, and medicine. Best of all, the proceeds from the vehicle you donate will stay right here in the Wausau area, helping someone in y our city, your neighborhood, maybe even someone you know. You can even earn a tax break too! To learn more about this caring opportunity please pick up a brochure in the back of church, visit www.svdpusa.org or call (800) 322-8284.

How the "We Belong to Christ Campaign" is Benefiting our Parishes
The "We Belong to Christ Campaign" has been very successful. There has been an improvement in the financial positions of both Parishes.
Church of the Resurrection: Resurrection Parish began the Campaign in February of 2008. Today, we have a Building Endowment (generated from your generous contributions to the "We Belong to Christ" Campaign, along with interest and capital gains) of nearly $295,000. The interest and a predetermined percentage of capital gains from this Endowment is only to be used for the repair and maintenance of our Church, to keep our newly remodeled Church looking beautiful indefinitely. The principal of this Endowment Account can legally never be used. Your contributions to "We Belong to Christ" have totaled $479,086 as of September 30, 2011. $239,743 has come back to our parish to form the Building Endowment, $95,917 has remained with the Diocese, and $143,425 has been applied to our schools.
St. Michael Parish: St. Michael Parish began it's Campaign in April of 2007. At that time, our loan amount was $3,007,266. Today, because of your generous contributions to the Campaign, the loan has decreased to $2,137,275. 99.99% of this decrease was due to the Campaign and the remainder from private contributions. Also, the first two years of the Campaign, the Diocese waivered the monthly interest on the loan. This amounted to $182,633.00. Your contributions to "We Belong to Christ" have totaled $1,444,723 as of September 30, 2011. $868,432 has come back to our parish to be applied to our loan, $221,829 has remained with the Diocese, and $354,462 has been applied to our schools.

Even during our economic struggle, "We Belong to Christ" has and continues to be very beneficial-thanks to all of you!
